Bill Pittman, songwriter and entertainer

Hello Austin, Nashville, New York, L.A.!
Going for it!

Welcome! After banging on a guitar most of my life, I've been writing songs and playing songwriter concerts and dance parties for several years. Now, I shift it into another gear, ramping it up to tour as a singer-songwriter.

UPDATE

On Christmas Day, 2007, I drove to Nashville for my first ever studio recording session. It was everything I'd hoped it would be. I was there for seven days, returning home on New Years Day, 2008. We got five songs recorded and that was a major accomplishment. All of the songs are upbeat and humorous. I do have a darker side, haha. Russ Ragsdale was the producer and engineer and did a fine job.

We recorded...

  • Tigers Number One - LSU song
  • Where Are You - Recovering from hurricanes.
  • Blame It On Mardi Gras - Such a crazy time!
  • Tony Joe White - Confused over who he is.
  • Hank Hank Hank - There are three of them!

I miss all of my old friends! Those I grew up with in Plain Dealing, Louisiana and those I've met along the way. Contact me! There is a contact form at the bottom of the page. Or just call me at 318-326-5445.

Where In The Hell Is Plain Dealing?

I wrote a song about just that!

What kind of music do I write? Folk. Rock. Country. Strong on the country-rock. Alt-country. I actually write a little bit of everything, having been weaned on 60s folk/pop/rock music, then later learning to love country music.

Also, some blues. Geez, it's everything... singer-songwriter, acoustic, Americana, Indie. But if I had to pick one, it would be country-rock. Which oddly doesn't exist anymore as a genre.

As for parties, I play popular songs in pop, rock and country genres.

Do you ever host a party? I am seeking "house concert" hosts. These are fun events, something different for you and your friends. Just gather a group of friends and I'll come over and pick and grin, playing songs I have written. I also play regular dance parties.

I also host concerts or dances from time to time. Sometimes, a dance follows the concert.

A concert is a "songwriter listening concert." Where you sit down and listen to mostly original songs.

The other type of show I do is a regular "dance" or "party." These are generally louder and looser, unlike a songwriter's "listening" event. Only a handful of original songs are played and the emphasis is party and dance music.

Info about the next concert/show

So, I'm going for it. Wish me luck! I'll need it. I've written 300+ complete songs, (words and music) and now I'm going to try to "do something" with them. I don't have visions of being a big-shot singing star. Just enjoying playing live music and the challenge of becoming a good songwriter, all while stuck in midlife crisis in Plain Dealing, Louisiana, heehee.

About my songs, the more I write, the better they get. I think I have some good songs! I just hope to touch some people with the touchy songs or make them laugh with the humorous songs, whatever their needs are. Record my own albums and try to get some songs cut by recording artists.

I hope to see you at the next show!

Letter from famous producer, Lloyd Maines

(NOTE FROM BILL: I recently was able to get some 'rough' work demo recordings into the hands of this legendary producer, including some humorous songs plus a full album of songs to be entitled "Full Circle." He has produced some of my all-time favorite records. I'm pleased with his response!)

Hi Bill, I listened to your cd's... great stuff. I enjoy your vocal approach and it sounds like you're a good rhythm player. Some of the (demo) recordings sounded better than others, but I figure you probably did them at different times.

You could do a great cd. My take on the Full Circle idea is that maybe you should not mix the funny stuff with the serious songs. Your lyrics are very intelligent on both. Think about what your listener would want to hear going down the highway or sitting at home listening. Sometimes one clever and humorous song works in among a serious collection but I wouldn't load it (the 'serious' CD) up with too many funny ones. I think you could save most of those for a separate cd.

Just my humble opinion. It was great meeting you and after hearing your writing, it reminds me yet once again how I'm blown away by talented, artistic folks that are tucked away in small remote areas of this country. Very refreshing.

Best regards, Lloyd Maines

Letter from famous songwriter consultant, John Braheny

(NOTE FROM BILL: Recently, I was also able to sit down with Los Angeles songwriting guru, John Braheny. He analyzed some of my work demo recordings. John is one of the most famous songwriter consultants in the world, having first started the Los Angeles songwriting showcases and critique sessions decades ago. I'm pleased with his response!)

Among very definitive comments about individual songs, this...

I would place your songwriting abilities in the top 10 to 15% of all songwriters. Your strong point is originality; you have very original hooks and themes, making your songs interesting, one of the most important traits publishers look for.
